Eight apartments on 2.25 acres.  Owner replaced copper pipes with pex, upgraded the electric, installed ceramic tile, new windows and a lot of cabinets and appliances. Many of the renters have helped out with yardwork and small repairs.  There is a community garden, and the renters have been managing it and sharing the produce.

It is a beautiful piece of property just below Mount Pisgah in the Hominy Valley in Candler.  There are undeveloped views all around and at night the place is alive with bullfrogs, crickets, and an unobstructed view of a beautiful night sky.  It feels private and secluded while being only a 16 mile drive into Asheville.  Most of the renters have commuted to Asheville for work.

Neighbors chip in to help each other out and everyone feels a sense of responsibility for the place.  There are free range chickens there now, and everyone shares in taking care of them and collecting eggs. People often talk about the place “having a good energy,” and as the story goes it is situated on an energy vortex.  We’ve had different people approach us to tell stories about how the property was used before.  In the 1970’s it was a retreat center called “Spirithaven” and people came there from all over for weekly retreats.

Owners have had primarily long term renters and people typically stay from 1 to 3 years.  For a time, owner furnished 3 of the units and rented them nightly for $100 a night.  They had visitors from all over the US, who made many of the same comments about the healing properties of the space.
